What is the Stanton Trophy?

Stanton Trophy

The Stanton Trophy is an interdivisional sporting competition consisting of an annual series of events played throughout the year. The competition was established in 1933 and has become part of the social fabric of the various organisations that occupy the NPL site in Teddington.

Not only do these competitions give everyone a chance to enjoy the various sports available at the NPL Sports Club, they also provide an opportunity for staff, located in different organisations and in widely separated parts of our large site, to meet one another socially. An additional benefit is the chance to discover new talent for the Sports Club. Many a star of the NPL Sports Club first realised their latent potential whilst playing in the light-hearted, but sometimes fiercely contested, Stanton Trophy competition.

Each Stanton Trophy season runs from June to May and is formally brought to a conclusion at the NPL Sports Club AGM, when the Club President presents the winners of the various competitions with the relevant cup or shield and the Stanton Trophy itself to the overall winners - the team with the greatest total number of points. Points are awarded for all places in each competition, so participation is always rewarded.

To compete in the Stanton Trophy, a person must typically be a member (employee, student, visitor) of one of the different organisations based on this Teddington site. The various organisations and divisions are currently divided into six teams competing in eleven different events. The philosophy of the Stanton Trophy is inclusivity, and participation is much more important than skill. So, no matter what your ability, come along and get involved!
